'8' equals million
The starry Sept. 19 reading of Dustin Lance Black's play "8" at the Eugene O'Neill Theater generated more than $1 million for the American Foundation for Equal Rights. The Prop. 8 drama gave Bradley Whitford a fine showcase as the lawyer fighting an increasingly losing battle. The loudest applause, though, was reserved for the same-sex couples played by Christine Lahti and Ellen Barkin and TV heartthrobs Matt Bomer and Cheyenne Jackson. The real-life plaintiffs joined the curtain call, and after litigant Paul Katami hugged Jackson, he couldn't resist a crowd-pleasing double take that plainly said, "Look at how hot I am!" - -- Gordon Cox Contact Variety Staff at news@variety.comWatch Transformers 3 Dark Of The Moon Megavideo
